The Secretary of State’s announcement today to allow cultivation of GM maize to be grown in the UK is bad news for West Dorset. Justine McGuinness, Parliamentary Spokesperson for West Dorset said:
“This is the thin edge of the wedge. I believe that people should have the right to choose to eat GM and grow free products. Because the issue of contamination and liability remains unresolved I think that Mrs Beckett’s announcement is premature. The Government must not license this crop at present.”
