Liberal Democrat run Bridport Town Council is set to become only the third town in England to sign the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change.
Chair of the Environment and Social Wellbeing Committee, Councillor Dave Rickard says, “We are using new powers under The Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Act to raise awareness of the challenges that climate change and fuel poverty will inevitably impact on our communities and for future generations.”
“We will be looking to make energy savings not only in the way we conduct our business as a Town Council, but also to help the rest of Bridport and surrounding areas to reduce their Carbon Footprint and save themselves money as well.”
“There are grants available especially for old and at risk people to insulate their homes and save money on more efficient heating and lighting, but the take up on these grants is still relatively low - we want to help our community help themselves.”
The Town Council will be running a Climate Change and Energy Awareness week 28th June - 5th July. More details will follow on Bridport Town Council’s website nearer the time.
