Postal voting
After every election, there are always people who wanted to vote but didn’t – often because something cropped up unexpectedly on polling day.
Some are away from home, have to deal with a family emergency or have a crisis at work. Others are ill on the day or find it difficult to get to the polling station. Many people simply forget.
We know that postal voters are twice as likely to vote as people who go to the polling station!
Everybody can now vote by post and postal voting is more convenient, easier and safer than ever before. All you need to do is fill in this form.
When you have completed and returned this form, at every future election, about a week to ten days before polling day, the Council will send you your ballot paper and a pre-paid reply envelope. You can then vote when it suits you and just pop your envelope into the post.
There are two new safeguards to deal with fraud. You now have to provide your signature and if you need the ballot paper to be sent anywhere other than your home address you will need to say why.
Although we don’t know the timing of the General Election many pundits are saying that it could occur in just a few months time. This is your chance to guarantee that your vote is counted.
